How to Layer a Cozy Winter Bed

When the nights get cold, a bed needs more than a thicker blanket. A few well-chosen layers do most of the work. Here is a simple way to build a cozy winter bed from the bottom up.

1. Start with the base

A quilted mattress pad or a pillow-top mattress topper adds softness under you. Measure your mattress depth first, and choose sheets that still fit with the extra layer.

2. Sheets that fit properly

Brushed microfiber is soft and easy to care for. Our Queen sheet set and King sheet set have deep pockets for mattresses up to 16 inches. See our guide on how to choose a sheet set.

3. A duvet cover and pillows

A 5-piece microfiber duvet cover set keeps the comforter in place with corner ties. Add two fluffy hotel-style pillows for support.

4. A throw at the end of the bed

A throw is the finishing layer, and it is easy to pull up when the room is cold. Try the Reversible Sherpa Throw (flannel on one side, sherpa on the other) or the Heated Sherpa Throw with five heat levels. Read the instructions before using any heated product.

5. Keep the light and the scent soft

Dim lighting and a calm scent help the room feel ready for sleep. A ceramic reed diffuser is flameless and needs no plug.
