How to Make Your Bed Feel Like a Hotel Bed: A Layer-by-Layer Guide

White hotel-style sheet set on a made bed

That "sink into it" feeling of a hotel bed rarely comes from one expensive item. It comes from a few simple layers, each doing one job, all in calm, matching colors. Here is the order we use, from the mattress up.

1. Protect and soften the mattress

Start with a quilted fitted mattress pad. It adds a thin cushioned layer, keeps the mattress clean and stays put with a deep-pocket skirt.

If your mattress feels too firm or a bit tired, add a pillow-top mattress topper under the pad. This is the single biggest step toward that soft hotel feel.

2. Crisp, smooth sheets

Hotels love plain white because it looks clean and is easy to match. Our hotel-soft queen sheet set (also in king) has 16-inch deep pockets, so it still fits once you add a topper, and the brushed microfiber resists wrinkles.

Tip: pull the fitted sheet corners tight and tuck the flat sheet firmly at the foot of the bed. A tight base is what makes a bed look "made" all day.

3. A fluffy duvet layer

Finish the top with a duvet cover. A 5-piece duvet cover set with shams gives you a coordinated look in one box. Fold the top third of the duvet back toward the foot of the bed for the classic hotel look.

4. Pillows: more than you think

Hotels usually stack two sleeping pillows per person, plus shams in front. Try hotel collection bed pillows for a plush feel, or gusseted pillows if you like more height and support. Side sleepers who hug a pillow often love an extra-long body pillow.

A mulberry silk pillowcase is a small upgrade that feels smooth and cool against your face.

5. A throw at the foot of the bed

A folded throw adds texture and warmth. A reversible sherpa throw is cozy, and the heated sherpa throw has 5 heat levels for cold nights.

6. The room around the bed

Good sleep is also about light and calm:
